As the most prominent public health crisis facing the country, the opioid overdose death rate has given rise to evolving legal risks for healthcare organizations. From standards in addressing pain and preventing overdoses to privacy and coverage challenges, healthcare organizations face a host of issues in developing responsive strategies. This presentation will provide an overview of areas where standards are changing and where further legislative and regulatory change may be on the horizon. We will assess tactics and strategies, and the hornet’s nest of legal issues surrounding them, with the goal of supporting healthcare organizations in addressing the evolving crisis.
